Cosmetic Doctor

Aussies spent more than $600 million in 2014 on non-invasive cosmetic enhancement treatments like Injectable fillers, Anti-wrinkle injections and other skin treatments.

Here are a few tips from Doctor Sarah herself, to help those considering cosmetic injectable treatment.

Let’s delve straight into them. Here’s what Dr. Sarah says:

1. Don’t be fooled, A little product can go a long way

I often find that just one syringe of dermal filler can be used cleverly in a few different areas of the face to give a subtle freshening to the face. Don’t let yourself be talked into having many syringes of dermal filling product, especially if it’s your first time having an injectable treatment. This can double the injectable treatment price.

You should not have to spend more than an estimated $500-600 to achieve a natural looking enhancement. It’s much easier to add at a follow-up appointment if you feel you want a more dramatic change later, but most of my clients prefer the more natural aesthetic look and that’s what we provide to them.

2. Following pre-treatment instructions is important

You will be instructed to stop aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen, fish oil supplements, and any blood thinning medication prior to your treatment. Do not ignore these instructions; they may just save you from getting a possible bruise that is embarrassing and hard to cover.

Many people do not known that fish oil and certain other natural oils taken as supplements can increase the likelihood that you will develop bruising. I recommend that my patients stop taking them a couple of weeks before their treatment.

3. Do not be fooled by advertised cheap “per unit” prices for wrinkle injections

There are two main brands of anti-wrinkle injections available in Australia. One of the brands requires about two and a half times the dose of the other to achieve the same effect. Keep this in mind when you see what appears to be a ridiculously cheap per unit price for wrinkle injections. That’s usually exactly what it is – ridiculous. You will almost always end up needing many more units of this type of poduct, and in the end, the cost is usually higher.

4. Trust your cosmetic doctor’s advice

I often have clients who say, “I like what you did for my friend “Jane”; her lips look amazing. I would really like you to do the exact same thing for me”, or some other request along those lines. Other times, clients bring in photos of celebrities after whom they would like to model their new look. I must tell these patients that what works for one individual may not work for another. We all have our own unique innate facial structure. It is my training as a doctor and my years of experience that make me the expert in knowing what will work best for you aesthetically. As your doctor, I am there to advise you on what is going to work for you.

5. Injectables can be pain free

As long as you arrive at least a half an hour early for your injectable appointment, our office staff can apply anaesthetic cream, sometimes called numbing cream, to the areas to be treated. Whilst it’s not necessary and most people are perfectly happy to go without, It requires a bit of time to numb the area in question.

This will ensure a more comfortable experience as you are given your injectable treatment. We also offer ice as a pre-treatment option. Ice cools the skin and thereby acts as a distraction to the pain receptors that are less able to detect the pain of the needle. The ice also helps to constrict capillaries in the skin making bruising less likely. Not everyone likes ice during their treatment, as some find the extreme cold on the surface of the skin more painful than the injections themselves.

Injectable facial treatments offer an affordable, quick method to rejuvenate your appearance. Get the most of the experience. Let the expert be your guide. Follow instructions and recommendations before and after your appointment. Arrive early at the office to enhance your comfort and don’t be fooled by cheap sounding marketing.

There are steps one can take to ensure the results will last longer and preserve your freshly rejuvenated skin–such as using SPF sunscreen, facial cleansers and creams. You will be surprised that even the most subtle changes in your appearance can make a world of difference. Dr Sarah caters for both minor/subtle enhancements as well as more dramatic ones.
